Malik was on top of the world at 13. Then, his dad was shot in the head so that thugs could steal his truck. Two days later, someone found his dad’s body in a dumpster.
His grandma was helping raise him anyway because his mom lived elsewhere. And now his dad was dead and never coming back. He understood. His little brother and sisters kept asking when daddy would be coming home. Malik felt bad for screaming that dad was never coming back, but he couldn’t take it anymore.
When he did sleep, Malik had nightmares about how his dad tried to fight those thugs, but, then, they would shoot him in cold blood and throw him in the dumpster. Malik also had these thoughts at school; he got into fights. Even his favorite teacher whose classes he used to ace was losing patience.
Malik’s grandma made them all see Rosemary, a counselor at Provident. At first, he wouldn’t talk. Now, Malik exhales with relief at having a place to talk about his nightmares, missing his dad and even about the good grades he’s achieving again.
With your help, Provident will continue to provide help to Malik and others like him. Please make a contribution today.
